Aristoteles Workshop – Documentary Film Workshop

For those who want to develop their skills in documentary filmmaking, Aristoteles Workshop is the place to be.

Aristoteles Workshop is a documentary film production program set up in 2006 by producers Dan Nuţu and Cristina Hoffman, who are looking to help filmmakers who are still at the beginning of their career. Among the first “graduates” of the AW is Adina Pintilie, with the film “Don’t get me wrong”, her first documentary feature film, which received a nomination at Locarno IFF, 2007. Every year, well-known experts in the field are present as mentors at the AW.

The workshop is open to filmmakers from all over the world who have already had experience in the field, and are still studying or have graduated from a film school. Passionate, creative and good collaborators are expected to join. Following a selection, 12 participants will be admitted, who all should make a complete group of filmmakers, writers, producers, directors, cinematographers and editors. They will split into groups and each of them will make a film from scratch, which, at the end of the workshop, should be ready to be presented to the general public.

This year, the workshop will be held in Beliș, Cluj County, and the participants will be staying there throughout the whole period of time. Structured on 4 stages: the theoretical part – which includes discussions on styles, strategies and techniques, production – which also includes research, post-production – video and audio editing, and final evaluation, the workshop will be held between August 1st – 31st, 2019.

At Aristoteles Workshop you will be trained by some of the best professionals in the field and, equally important, you will have the opportunity to meet and connect with the other colleagues within an international team. Of the 48 films made at Aristoteles Workshop so far, 13 have won international awards at festivals such as Cannes, Dok Leipzig and Locarno.

You can apply to Aristoteles Workshop until June 1st, 2019 by submitting the form here. The list of selected participants will be announced on June 20th.

The participation fee is 850 euros and covers accommodation and two meals per day, use of production and post-production equipment, as well as training and guidance from experts throughout the workshop. For more details, visit the Aristoteles Workshop website.
